Peter Mark Schouten, AM, est un artiste australien et illustrateur de publications dans le domaine de la zoologie et de la paléontologie.

David Attenborough a qualifié ses compétences de "rares et précieuses" et parmi les meilleures au monde.

Ses œuvres sont caractérisées par le naturalisme et la fidélité aux détails, grâce auxquels Schouten intègre ses propres idées et hypothèses dans la reconstruction de créatures éteintes et leur donne ainsi une touche individuelle.

Ses premiers travaux traitent principalement de la faune de son continent d'origine, l'Australie. Le premier livre dans lequel ses illustrations émergent, Prehistoric Animals of Australia, aborde également ce sujet. 

Au cours de son travail d'illustrateur et de co-auteur, il a travaillé avec plusieurs scientifiques, puis est devenu connu internationalement pour son portrait d'Homo floresiensis, qui a été publié en 2004 comme la première reconstruction scientifique de cette 
espèce d'hominidé

2014	Winner of the Manning Winter Festival Visual Arts Award, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to cultural development in the Manning Valley
2015	Awarded Member of the Order of Australia in recognition of his service to the visual arts as a wildlife and scientific illustrator, and for his commitment to the preservation and documentation of Australian natural history.
